In the mesh representation, the density is given only at the mesh
points. In order to calculate the skin thickness in the, say, x-axis
more accurately than the mesh spacing, we take the following procedures:
- We interpolate the density at the points of intersections between
the x-axis and the mesh planes x=(i+1/2)a using polynomials of order
two in y2 and z2.
- We interpolate to arbitrary points in the x-axis for the logarithm
of the density using polynomials of order three in x.
The resulting density in logarithmic plots versus x shows no
artificial ripples due to the interpolations.
