Hexadecapole moments

Last modification: 1996/3/21
A figure ( GIF file of 11KB or PS file of 153KB ). shows the hexadecapole deformation parameter a40 of the ground state solutions of the HF+BCS with SIII for even-even nuclei. Nuclei whose a40 is positive (negative) are designated with open (solid) circles whose diameter is proportional to |a40|. The staircase-like lines represent two-nucleon drip lines from our calculations.

This shape parameter becomes sizable for Z > 50. The sign is positive in the first half of the major shells and negative in the second half. This behavior is in agreement with the results of the FRDM [MNM94] ( GIF file of 11KB or PS file of 225KB ) as well as with a naive expectation from the density profile of pure-j single-particle wavefunctions. The largest value of |a40| is about 0.1 both for positive and negative signs.

We have also prepared similar figures for other shape parameters of the results of the FRDM [MNM94].
